Folic Acid Protects offsprings from colon cancer new research find
Folic acid supplements given to pregnant and breast-feeding females, reduced the rate of colon cancer in their offspring by 64 percent, based on mice studies.
The research, led by Young-in Kim, gastroenterologist at St. Michael's Hospital, is the first to find that folic acid supplements at the level ingested by women of childbearing age "significantly protects against the development of colorectal cancer in the offspring."
Folate is known to help make DNA and help it replicate. Natural folate is found in grains and dark, leafy vegetables, reports the journal Gut.
"It appears that giving folic acid during pregnancy and lactation reduces DNA damage and suppresses the proliferation of cells in the colon," Kim said, according to a St. Michael's statement.
"It actually increases the stability of the DNA and this might be one of the mechanisms of how folic acid in utero may protect against colon cancer."
The amount of folic acid to which foetuses are exposed has increased dramatically in North America in the past decade.
Women are routinely advised to take folic acid supplements before becoming pregnant and while pregnant to prevent neural tube birth defects such as spina bifida.
Since 1998, the Canadian and US governments have required food manufacturers to add folic acid to white flour, enriched pasta and cornmeal products as a way of ensuring women receive enough of the B vitamin.

Reduced Salt Consumption Kills says new research
A new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (May 4), reports that among 3,681 study subjects followed for as long as 23 years, the cardiovascular death rate was more than 50 percent higher among those on who consumed less salt.
The study found no evidence that dietary salt causes those conditions to arise.
The researchers concluded that their findings, “refute the estimates of computer model of lives saved and health care costs reduced with lower salt intake” and they do not support “the current recommendations of a generalized and indiscriminate reduction in salt intake at the population level.”
People who ate lots of salt were not more likely to get high blood pressure, and were less likely to die of heart disease than those with a low salt intake, in a new European study.
The findings "certainly do not support the current recommendation to lower salt intake in the general population," study author Dr. Jan Staessen, of the University of Leuven in Belgium, told Reuters Health.
The researchers used data from two different studies, incorporating a total of about 3,700 Europeans who had their salt consumption measured through urine samples at the start of the studies.
Staessen and his colleagues broke the participants up into three groups: those with highest and lowest salt intakes, and those with average intake.
None of the participants had heart disease at the outset, and two thirds had normal blood pressure.
They were followed for an average of 8 years, during which researchers determined

And in a smaller group, how many got high blood pressure.
The chance of getting heart and blood vessel diseases did not differ in the three groups. However, participants with the lowest salt intake had the highest rate of death from heart disease during the follow up (4 percent), and people who ate the most salt had the lowest (less than 1 percent).
"It's clear that one should be very careful in advocating generalized reduction in sodium intake in the population at large," Staessen said. "There might be some benefits, but there might also be some adverse effects."
According to CBS News, Belgium scientists discovered the following:
• The lowest sodium intake patients had a 56 percent greater chance of death from heart attack or stroke than the group who used salt the most frequently.
• Low sodium intake was not associated with improved health.
The findings are published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).
But we know that FDA and other agencies even our doctors recommend us reduction in salt content in our diet.
They tell us eat less salt it will reduced the chance of heart attack.

In past India was not ready to ban Endosulfan even after knowing the bad effects,
side effects of Endosulfan pesticide.
Now India accepted in Stockholm world convention that the pesticide Endosulfan is a health hazard.
India also agreed to a phased out ban with an exemption for some crops.

Two Years ago Dallas Wiens of Fort Worth a Texas construction worker badly disfigured in a power line accident.
The electrical accident in November 2008 left Wiens (WEENS), blind and without lips, a nose or eyebrows.
He has received Americas first full face transplant at a Boston hospital.
More than 30 doctors, nurses and other staff at Brigham and Women's Hospital led by plastic surgeon Dr. Bohdan Pomahac performed the 15-hour operation last week on 25-year-old Dallas Wiens of Fort Worth, Texas.
Currently he is in good condition in a Hospital.
The transplant was not able to restore Wiens' sight, and some nerves were so badly damaged from his injury that he likely will have only partial sensation on his left cheek and left forehead, the surgeon said.
In Boston, doctors transplanted an entire new face, including a nose, lips, skin and muscles and nerves that animate the skin and give sensation.
Wiens will not resemble "either what he used to be or the donor," but something in between, said Pomahac
The donor's identity was not disclosed nor would the hospital say exactly when the surgery was done for privacy reasons.
The surgery was paid for by the Defense Department; the hospital has a $3.4 million grant from the military for transplant research.
Wiens had no insurance when he was injured; Medicaid covered about two dozen surgeries until his disability payments put him over the income limit.
The new law allowed him to qualify for coverage under his father's plan for the drugs until he turns 26 in May.
Then he'll be eligible to receive Medicare, which covers the disabled

Ibuprofen Reduces Risk of Developing Parkinson's disease
A new study by Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) researchers shows that adults who regularly take ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), have about one-third less risk of developing Parkinson’s disease than non-users.
“There is no cure for Parkinson’s disease, so the possibility that ibuprofen, an existing and relatively non-toxic drug, could help protect against the disease is captivating,”
Parkinson’s disease, a progressive nervous disease occurring generally after age 50
It is hypothesized that ibuprofen may reduce inflammation in the brain that may contribute to the disease.
In the new study, Ascherio, lead author Xiang Gao, research scientist at HSPH and associate epidemiologist in the Channing Laboratory at Brigham and Women's Hospital, and colleagues analyzed data from nearly 99,000 women enrolled in the Brigham and Women’s Hospital-based Nurses’ Health Study and over 37,000 men in the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study.
The researchers identified 291 cases (156 men and 135 women) of Parkinson’s disease during their six-year follow-up study (1998-2004 in women; 2000-2006 in men). Based on questionnaires, the researchers analyzed the patients’ use of ibuprofen (e.g. Advil, Motrin, Nuprin), aspirin or aspirin-containing products, other anti-inflammatory pain relievers (e.g., Aleve, Naprosyn), and acetaminophen (e.g., Tylenol). (Although not an NSAID, acetaminophen was included because it’s similarly used to treat pain.) Age, smoking, diet, caffeine, and other variables also were considered.
“We observed that men and women who used ibuprofen two or more times per week were about 38% less likely to develop Parkinson’s disease than those who regularly used aspirin, acetaminophen, or other NSAIDs,” Gao said. “Our findings suggest that ibuprofen could be a potential neuroprotective agent against Parkinson’s disease, however, the exact mechanism is unknown.”
These findings raise hope that a readily available, inexpensive drug could help to treat Parkinson’s disease. “Because the loss of brain cells that leads to Parkinson’s disease occurs over a decade or more, a possible explanation of our findings is that use of ibuprofen protects these cells.
If so, use of ibuprofen could help slow the disease’s progression,” Gao said.
The findings do not mean that people who already have Parkinson’s disease should begin taking ibuprofen, Ascherio added. “Although generally perceived as safe, ibuprofen can have side effects, such as increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding. Whether this risk is compensated by a slowing of the disease progression should be investigated under rigorous supervision in a randomized clinical trial,” he said.
Support for the study was provided by the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke and the Intramural Research Program of NIH’s National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.

At this institute, physician John Harvey Kellogg invented several grain-based meat substitutes.

Accidental Invention of Famous Cereal by Kellogg Brothers –
1894 – Brothers used to make wheatmeal for patients.
To make it, they would run boiled wheat through rollers to create a very thin cracker-type sheet. They would then roast the sheet and grind it into meal.
One night that the brothers left a batch of boiled wheat out and forgot about it.
The next day, they ran it through the rollers to see if the stale wheat would be salvageable once it was ground.
Instead of a unified flat sheet, the wheat came out as flakes
They roasted the flakes and served them to their patients. They had an immediate success on their hands.
Kellogg had invented corn flakes.
In 1894 - Charles William Post started La Vita Inn.
There, he set to work on creating his own chicory coffee substitute and breakfast cereals.

Accidental Invention of Famous Cereal by Kellogg Brothers –
1894 – Brothers used to make wheatmeal for patients.
To make it, they would run boiled wheat through rollers to create a very thin cracker-type sheet. They would then roast the sheet and grind it into meal.
One night that the brothers left a batch of boiled wheat out and forgot about it.
The next day, they ran it through the rollers to see if the stale wheat would be salvageable once it was ground.
Instead of a unified flat sheet, the wheat came out as flakes
They roasted the flakes and served them to their patients. They had an immediate success on their hands.
Kellogg had invented corn flakes.
In 1894 - Charles William Post started La Vita Inn.
There, he set to work on creating his own chicory coffee substitute and breakfast cereals.
1897 - Later he started to sell his own Granula - we know it today as Grape-nuts - an easier to chew derivative of Dr. James Caleb Jackson's original cereal.
Later he introduced own brand of corn flakes, which he called "Elijah's Manna". The cereal was a big seller... once he changed the name to Post Toasties.
In 1906, Will bought out his brother's portion of the cereal patents and went on to create the Kellogg Company.
Rice Krispies were introduced by Kellogg in 1929.
To avoid confusion with his competitors products, WK Kellogg had his name and signature scripted on each package of Kellogg’s® Corn Flakes along the explanation “The original has this signature"
In 1953, Kellogg's introduced Sugar Smacks, aptly named because it contained 56 percent sugar.
In the 1930s, the first puffed cereal, Kix, went on the market.
1941 - The introduction of the seven-ounce box of Cheerioats was a major event for General Mills."
Quaker Oats man became the first registered breakfast cereal trademark in 1877, breakfast cereals have been synonymous with characters like Tony the Tiger of Kellogg’s, the Trix Rabbit, and Post's Sugar Bear.
Because of Kellogg and Post, the city of Battle Creek, Michigan is nicknamed the "Cereal Capital of the World"

Dengue Fever is also known as breakbone fever.
Dengue fever and dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) and Dengue Shock Syndrome (DSS) are acute febrile diseases which occur in the tropics.
The disease is now endemic in more than 100 countries.
The first record of a case of probable dengue fever is in a Chinese medical encyclopedia from the Jin Dynasty (265–420 AD) which referred to a “water poison” associated with flying insects.
The first recognized Dengue epidemics occurred almost simultaneously in Asia, Africa, and North America in the 1780
Dengue virus belongs to the family Flaviviridae, which includes the hepatitis C virus, West Nile and Yellow fever viruses among others.
Endemic meaning - A disease that occurs regularly in a particular area, as malaria does in many tropical countries, is said to be endemic.
Febrile diseases meaning - Any disease associated with or characterized by fever.
What is Dengue?
Dengue is a disease caused by any one of four closely related dengue viruses (DENV 1, DENV 2, DENV 3, or DENV 4).
You can be infected by at least two if not all four types at different times during your lifetime, but only once by the same type.
The viruses are transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected mosquito.
Dengue is transmitted to humans by the Aedes (Stegomyia) aegypti or more rarely the Aedes albopictus mosquito, both of which feed exclusively during daylight hours.
Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is a more severe form of dengue infection.
It can be fatal if unrecognized and not properly treated in a timely manner.
DHF is caused by infection with the same viruses that cause dengue fever.

How Dengue and Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is spread?
Dengue is transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, particularly A. aegypti and A. albopictus.
Dengue is transmitted to people by the bite of an Aedes mosquito that is infected with a dengue virus.
The mosquito becomes infected with dengue virus when it bites a person who has dengue virus in their blood.
The person can either have symptoms of dengue fever or DHF, or they may have no symptoms.
After about one week, the mosquito can then transmit the virus while biting a healthy person.
Dengue cannot be spread directly from person to person.
Dengue may also be transmitted via infected blood products (blood transfusions, plasma, and platelets)
Possible factors for dengue fever spread include: Unplanned urban overpopulation of areas leading to inadequate housing and public health systems (water, sewerage and waste management) and Poor vector control, e.g., stagnant pools of water for mosquito breeding

When the fever declines, symptoms including persistent vomiting, severe abdominal pain, and difficulty breathing, may develop.
This marks the beginning of a 24- to 48-hour period when the smallest blood vessels (capillaries) become excessively permeable (“leaky”), allowing the fluid component to escape from the blood vessels into the peritoneum (causing ascites) and pleural cavity (leading to pleural effusions).
This may lead to failure of the circulatory system and shock, followed by death, if circulatory failure is not corrected.
In addition, the patient with DHF has a low platelet count and hemorrhagic manifestations, tendency to bruise easily or other types of skin hemorrhages, bleeding nose or gums, and possibly internal bleeding.
There may also be severe retro-orbital pain, (a pain from behind the eyes that is distinctive to Dengue infections), and gastritis with some combination of associated abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting coffee-grounds-like congealed blood, or diarrhea.
CLINICAL FEATURES - Sudden onset of fever, severe headache, myalgias and arthralgias, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia and hemorrhagic manifestations and occasionally produces shock and hemorrhage, leading to death.
What is the treatment for dengue?

Dengue is diagnosed by a blood test.
There is no specific medication for treatment of a dengue infection.
Persons who think they have dengue should use analgesics (pain relievers) with acetaminophen and avoid those containing aspirin.
Aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should be avoided as these drugs may worsen the bleeding tendency associated with some of these infections. Patients may receive paracetamol, acetaminophen, and preparations to deal with these symptoms if dengue is suspected.
They should also rest, drink plenty of fluids, and consult a physician.
If they feel worse (e.g., develop vomiting and severe abdominal pain) in the first 24 hours after the fever declines, they should go immediately to the hospital for evaluation.
Increased oral fluid intake is recommended to prevent dehydration. Supplementation with intravenous fluids may be necessary to prevent dehydration and significant concentration of the blood if the patient is unable to maintain oral intake. A platelet transfusion may be indicated if the platelet level drops significantly (below 20,000) or if there is significant bleeding. The presence of melena may indicate internal gastrointestinal bleeding requiring platelet and/or red blood cell transfusion.
Is there an effective treatment for dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF)?
As with dengue fever, there is no specific medication for DHF.
It can however be effectively treated by fluid replacement therapy if an early clinical diagnosis is made.
DHF management frequently requires hospitalization.
Most people who develop dengue fever recover completely within 2 weeks. Some, especially adults, may be tired and/or depressed for several weeks to months after being infected with the virus.
The more clinically severe dengue hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndromes can result in vascular (blood vessel) and liver damage, and can be life-threatening.

What precautions we can take to avoid the dengue fever?
There is no vaccine for preventing dengue.
The Aedes mosquito likes to bite in the morning and afternoons, often indoors or in the shade. The mosquito, Aedes species, is a day biter; so during daylight hours, in areas where mosquitoes are present, protect yourself by properly using anti-mosquito measures.

You must ask your local government and politicians to keep your area clean.
Remember Dengue will kill you. Politicians are our paid servants so we must ask them it is our right they are our servants.

This will eliminate the mosquito eggs and larvae and reduce the number of mosquitoes present in these areas.
Using air conditioning or window and door screens reduces the risk of mosquitoes coming indoors. Proper application of mosquito repellents containing 20% to 30% DEET as the active ingredient on exposed skin and clothing decreases the risk of being bitten by mosquitoes.
Wearing clothing is usually a good idea, especially long sleeves, long pants or skirts.

Dengue Fever is also known as breakbone fever.
Dengue fever and dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) and Dengue Shock Syndrome (DSS) are acute febrile diseases which occur in the tropics.
The disease is now endemic in more than 100 countries.
The first record of a case of probable dengue fever is in a Chinese medical encyclopedia from the Jin Dynasty (265–420 AD) which referred to a “water poison” associated with flying insects.
The first recognized Dengue epidemics occurred almost simultaneously in Asia, Africa, and North America in the 1780
Dengue virus belongs to the family Flaviviridae, which includes the hepatitis C virus, West Nile and Yellow fever viruses among others.
Endemic meaning - A disease that occurs regularly in a particular area, as malaria does in many tropical countries, is said to be endemic.
Febrile diseases meaning - Any disease associated with or characterized by fever.
What is Dengue?
Dengue is a disease caused by any one of four closely related dengue viruses (DENV 1, DENV 2, DENV 3, or DENV 4).
You can be infected by at least two if not all four types at different times during your lifetime, but only once by the same type.

Salt can be used as a medicine, in beauty treatments, in industries. Salt is very important and useful for human life. No other seasoning has yet been found that can satisfactorily take the place of salt. In fact, ancient wars were fought over salt deposits!
1.Gargling - Stir 1/2 teaspoon salt in glass of warm water for use as a gargle for sore throats
2.Cleaning teeth - Mix one part salt to two parts baking soda after pulverizing the salt in a blender or rolling it on a kitchen board with a tumbler before mixing. It whitens teeth, helps remove plaque and it is healthy for the gums.
3.Washing mouth - Mix equal parts of salt and baking soda as a mouth wash that sweetens the breath.
4.Bathing eyes - Mix 1/2 teaspoon of salt in a pint of water and use the solution to bathe tired eyes.
5.Reducing eye puffiness - Mix one teaspoon of salt in a pint of hot water and apply pads soaked in the solution on the puffy areas.
6.Relieving tired feet - Soak aching feet in warm water to which a handful of salt has been added. Rinse in cool water.
7.Relieving bee stings - If stung, immediately wet the spot and cover with salt to relieve the pain.
8.Treating mosquito and chigger bites - Soak in saltwater, then apply a mixture of lard and salt
9.Treating poison ivy - Soaking the exposed part in hot saltwater helps hasten the end to poison ivy irritation
10.Relieving fatigue - Soak relaxed for at least ten minutes in a tub of water into which several handfuls of salt has been placed.
11.Removing dry skin - After bathing and while still wet give yourself a massage with dry salt. It removes dead skin particles and aids the circulation.
12.Applying facial - For a stimulating facial, mix equal parts of salt and olive oil and gently massage the face and throat with long upward and inward strokes. Remove mixture after five minutes and wash face.
13.Removing tattoos -CAUTION-This is a medical procedure that can be done only by a physician. It is called salabrasion and requires several treatments by rubbing salt on the tattoo. Healing is required between treatments, but there is virtually no scarring
14.Treating varicose veins - CAUTION-This is another medical procedure called sclerotheraphy and is done by injecting a saline solution into the vein.
15.Salt tablets -- Pure 1 gram salt tablets for the preparation of saline or for use as a supplement to offset salt loss during heavy exercise [ under medical guidance ]
16.Extinguishing grease fires - Keep a box of salt handy at your stove and oven and if a grease fire flares up, cover the flames with salt.
17.Do not use water on grease fires; it will splatter the burning grease. Also a handful of salt thrown on flames from meat dripping in barbecue grills will reduce the flames and deaden the smoke without cooling the coals as water does.
18.Drip-proofing candles - Soak new candles in a strong salt solution for a few hours, and then dry them well. When burned they will not drip.
19.Removing soot - Occasionally throw a handful of salt on the flames in your fireplace; it will help loosen soot from the chimney and salt makes a bright yellow flame.
20.Cleaning fish tanks - Rub the inside of fish tanks with salt to remove hard water deposits, then rinse well before returning the fish to the tank. Use only plain, not iodized, salt.
21.Invigorating goldfish - Occasionally add one teaspoon of salt to a quart of fresh water at room temperature and put your goldfish in for about 15 minutes. Then return them to their tank. The salt swim makes them healthier.
22.Cleaning flower vases - To remove deposits caused by flowers and water, rub with salt; if you cannot reach the deposits to rub them, put a strong salt solution in the vase and shake, and then wash the vase with soap and water.
23.Keeping cut flowers fresh - A dash of salt added to the water in a flower vase will keep cut flowers fresh longer
24.Holding artificial flowers - Artificial flowers can be held in an artistic arrangement by pouring salt into the container, adding a little cold water and then arranging the flowers. The salt will solidify as it dries and hold the flowers in place.
25.Keeping patios weed-free - If weeds or unwanted grass come up between patio bricks or blocks, carefully spread salt between the bricks and blocks, then sprinkle with water or wait for rain to wet it down.

28.Anti-icing sidewalks and driveways - Lightly sprinkling rock salt on walks and driveways will keep snow and ice from bonding to the pavement and allow for easy removal. Don't overdo it; use the salt sensibly to avoid damage to grass and ornamentals.

37.Crisping salads - Salting salads immediately before serving will keep them crisp
38.Preventing sugaring - A little salt added to cake icings prevents them from sugaring.
39.Improving boiled potatoes - Boiled potatoes will be given a fine, mealy texture by sprinkling with salt after draining, then returning them to the pan and shaking them back and forth quickly to get rid of the excess moisture.
40.If you plan on adding salt to boiling water for pasta or vegetables, wait until the water boils before adding it. Salted water takes longer to boil.
41.Cleaning greasy pans - The greasiest iron pan will wash easily if you put a little salt in it and wipe with paper
42.Cleaning stained cups - Rubbing with salt will remove stubborn tea or coffee stains from cups

Salt can be used as a medicine, in beauty treatments, in industries. Salt is very important and useful for human life. No other seasoning has yet been found that can satisfactorily take the place of salt. In fact, ancient wars were fought over salt deposits!
1.Gargling - Stir 1/2 teaspoon salt in glass of warm water for use as a gargle for sore throats
2.Cleaning teeth - Mix one part salt to two parts baking soda after pulverizing the salt in a blender or rolling it on a kitchen board with a tumbler before mixing. It whitens teeth, helps remove plaque and it is healthy for the gums.
3.Washing mouth - Mix equal parts of salt and baking soda as a mouth wash that sweetens the breath.
4.Bathing eyes - Mix 1/2 teaspoon of salt in a pint of water and use the solution to bathe tired eyes.
5.Reducing eye puffiness - Mix one teaspoon of salt in a pint of hot water and apply pads soaked in the solution on the puffy areas.
6.Relieving tired feet - Soak aching feet in warm water to which a handful of salt has been added. Rinse in cool water.
7.Relieving bee stings - If stung, immediately wet the spot and cover with salt to relieve the pain.
8.Treating mosquito and chigger bites - Soak in saltwater, then apply a mixture of lard and salt
9.Treating poison ivy - Soaking the exposed part in hot saltwater helps hasten the end to poison ivy irritation
10.Relieving fatigue - Soak relaxed for at least ten minutes in a tub of water into which several handfuls of salt has been placed.

16.Extinguishing grease fires - Keep a box of salt handy at your stove and oven and if a grease fire flares up, cover the flames with salt.
17.Do not use water on grease fires; it will splatter the burning grease. Also a handful of salt thrown on flames from meat dripping in barbecue grills will reduce the flames and deaden the smoke without cooling the coals as water does.
18.Drip-proofing candles - Soak new candles in a strong salt solution for a few hours, and then dry them well. When burned they will not drip.
19.Removing soot - Occasionally throw a handful of salt on the flames in your fireplace; it will help loosen soot from the chimney and salt makes a bright yellow flame.
20.Cleaning fish tanks - Rub the inside of fish tanks with salt to remove hard water deposits, then rinse well before returning the fish to the tank. Use only plain, not iodized, salt.
21.Invigorating goldfish - Occasionally add one teaspoon of salt to a quart of fresh water at room temperature and put your goldfish in for about 15 minutes. Then return them to their tank. The salt swim makes them healthier.
22.Cleaning flower vases - To remove deposits caused by flowers and water, rub with salt; if you cannot reach the deposits to rub them, put a strong salt solution in the vase and shake, and then wash the vase with soap and water.
23.Keeping cut flowers fresh - A dash of salt added to the water in a flower vase will keep cut flowers fresh longer
24.Holding artificial flowers - Artificial flowers can be held in an artistic arrangement by pouring salt into the container, adding a little cold water and then arranging the flowers. The salt will solidify as it dries and hold the flowers in place.
25.Keeping patios weed-free - If weeds or unwanted grass come up between patio bricks or blocks, carefully spread salt between the bricks and blocks, then sprinkle with water or wait for rain to wet it down.

27.Keeping windows frost-free - Rub the inside of windows with a sponge dipped in a saltwater solution and rub dry; the windows will not frost up in sub-freezing weather. Rubbing a small cloth bag containing salt that has been moistened on your car's windshield will keep snow and ice from collecting
28.Anti-icing sidewalks and driveways - Lightly sprinkling rock salt on walks and driveways will keep snow and ice from bonding to the pavement and allow for easy removal. Don't overdo it; use the salt sensibly to avoid damage to grass and ornamentals.

39.Improving boiled potatoes - Boiled potatoes will be given a fine, mealy texture by sprinkling with salt after draining, then returning them to the pan and shaking them back and forth quickly to get rid of the excess moisture.
40.If you plan on adding salt to boiling water for pasta or vegetables, wait until the water boils before adding it. Salted water takes longer to boil.
41.Cleaning greasy pans - The greasiest iron pan will wash easily if you put a little salt in it and wipe with paper
